After filling up my tank with gas, just before I opened my door to get in the car and head home, a women pulled up next to me and said, "Can you help me with something?" I agreed to give my assistance. She said, "I'm trying to get home to Manti Utah and I'm out of gas. My debit card isn't working. Could you give me some gas?" Debit card is in my hand and fully functioning so I say why not?! She then pulls forward a little more and parks the car.
She is muttering something in the car so I go up to the window and she asks, "Is the tank on that side?" Sure enough it is. Then she tells me, as she is motioning with both hands, that she is completely paralyzed on the left side and asks if I could just pump the gas for her. She has pulled so far forward that I have to stretch the hose as far as it can go.
As I'm watching the dollar amount rise I'm thinking, "I'll go ten. I think that will get her to Manti." $10 goes by and I decide that $20 won't hurt. I'm employed after all. Then the pump stops at $14. Which means that she clearly wasn't on empty. I put the gas cap on and turn to smile and walk back to my car when she says, "I guess my 'thingy' was wrong. It said empty. How weird? What if it is really on empty? I have to get all the way to St. George. Do you think you could donate some more money." Nope. I never carry cash and there couldn't possibly be an ATM at the gas station or in the grocery store next to it. So...no I cannot.
I watched her go east out of the parking lot, then turn north at the light. Maybe she is taking the scenic route to Manti and/or St. George.

barf. i hate that. and you don't know what to do exactly because you want to be helpful but you question whether or not they are really in peril. oh well. you'll get blessings, right? :)

Would it make you feel any better if I somehow knew that the car broke down in Fillmore and they had to walk the rest of the way?

That happens to a lot of saints though so don't feel too bad. Now is the time that you have to decide if you are going to continue to be a saint or if you are going to punch liars in the face. Those are your only 2 choices.
