Write the Future

Greetings from the shores of Lake Las Vegas.

I was catching up on my Ad Age reading this morning and came across a few articles about Nike's biggest viral campaign ever. It's a three minute video centered around the World Cup and how your actions will write the future. I'm not really a soccer fan. I like it, but I couldn't give you the names of any professional players and I have no idea who won the World Cup last year. This ad makes me feel like I've been missing out. Everyone else in the world likes soccer so I probably should too. Well done Nike.

The Nike Suits say that it's one of their best ads ever and over 7.8 million people viewed the ad online in the first week (the youtube link is well over 10.5 million right now), breaking the previous record, also held by Nike, of 6.3 million views in the first week for the ad called "Earl and Tiger."

Fun fact: You won't see any actual reference to the World Cup because Nike isn't an official sponsor...Adidas is.

What do you think? Best ever?

Awesome video. Though it doesn't "reference" the World Cup, it is comical that Ronaldinho, formerly the world's greatest soccer player in 2005 and 2006 (Brazil guy, long hair), is not on Brazil's roster for the cup.
