Hemp ice cream and ponytails

Airports and concerts provide prime people watching opportunities. Whenever I have the opportunity to combine the two, I take it. While we were waiting to board our flight to Denver I saw a man standing in the preferred line wearing a suit. He had long flowing gray hair that was tied back in a ponytail. Please refer to Steve Martin a la Baby Mama for a visual reference. It wasn't his glorious hair that caught my eye. It was the pink hair tie from 1992 that grabbed and held my attention.

After waiting for about an hour (don't EVER use Payless rental) we drove straight to the Cramer's. I spent a few hours visiting with Elizabeth and playing with baby Charles. We woke him up from his nap while EBC was taking taking me on the grand tour of their beautiful house. I was expecting him to be grumpy like any other babe that is rudely awakened from a mid afternoon nap. On the contrary, he was all smiles and even let me hold him for awhile.

Before the concert, we stopped in Morrison (a wanna be Park City) for dinner. A big mountain storm rolled through while we were eating on the patio...fun, but not so fun if you are going to be at an outdoor concert.

We got to the amphitheater just in time to see Mr. Sting's limo pull up.

After hiking to our seats, another mountain storm came rolling through with a heavy dose of lightning. We took shelter in the gift shop/museum and bought ponchos in an effort to be prepared. The storm stopped just in the nick of time. It was a Sting miracle.

The concert was fantastic. Sting said that it's his favorite venue to play at because it is a sacred place. I don't know about sacred, but the acoustics are sure good. View the video at the bottom for a selection of my favorites.

Let's get to the people watching. This guy was selling hemp ice cream.

Someone nearby was smoking "wacky weed," as my dad calls it. When I got a whiff of it I looked at my dad and asked him what it was...I thought it was either a skunk or an extremely dirty human. We had a good laugh at the fact that I thought a skunk would come that close to thousands of people at a loud concert. I guess it's a good thing that I'm 24 and can't identify the smell of weed. About a half hour later we smelled something again. This time it was a skunk for sure. I can now distinguish between a skunk and weed. The trip was worth it for that reason alone.

In conclusion, Red Rocks is as amazing as everyone says it is. If you like music and concerts, go there. I'm hoping to make it an annual event.

I'm in! You pick the concert, and I'll be there!

Thanks for going and for making it so fun. It was a great father's day present. Your post will provide a great trip down memory lane to look back on what we did.

P.S. - I'm so glad that I could be there to help teach you another of life's important lessons, such as the difference between skunk and weed smells. My life is complete!
