Amanda Wheeler Hansen, age 90, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2008, in Gradyville, Kentucky.Amanda was born May 19, 1918, in Hurricane, Utah. She graduated valedictorian from Provo High School in 1936. She married Arthur W. Hansen May 25, 1941 in the Salt Lake Temple. They made their home in Idaho where they farmed for 20 years before moving to Orem in 1963. She earned a degree in English and a Masters degree in Library Science at BYU. She was a member of the faculty and the Reserve librarian at BYU until she retired.
With her husband she served three missions: two in Iceland and one at the Switzerland Temple. After Arthur's death in 1995, Amanda served two more missions, one at the Genealogy Center in Salt Lake City and one at the Family History Center in Provo.
Amanda was an excellent gardener and was famous for her raspberries and vegetables. She enjoyed cooking for her extended family. She was a prolific genealogist. She loved the Gospel of Jesus Christ and spent her life pursuing righteousness in everything she did. She was a hard worker and truly endured to the end.
I hope you don't think I'm a weirdy for put this up. My awesome friend, Allie, sent me a picture message of this obituary this morning. I looked it up as soon as I got to work. She was an amazing lady and I can only hope to live up to the name. We do have one thing in common, besides the name...we both worked at the Harold B. Lee Library. She was the Reserve Librarian which means that we worked in the same office area. Which means that we have spent a lot of time in the same place...only I was there around 30 years after she was.
