Last week my dad and I went on a hike to Twin Lakes, which is really just one lake because they built a dam dam. The trailhead is at Silver Lake at Solitude Ski Resort. There is a lovely path and boardwalk around the lake. It's a very marshy area and moose have been spotted there from time to time. The majestic moose is my favorite animal and lots of people like to tell me when they spot one. Which is great except for the fact that I haven't seen one in years...like since I was in high school.
The whole drive up the canyon I was secretly hoping that we would see one. I didn't verbalize my wish because I didn't want to jinx it. We started on the trail and I saw something move out of the corner of my eye.
Boom goes the dynamite, it was a moose AND her baby. A two-fer! They were beautiful. I love moose so much because they live in the mountains and mind their own business unless you mess with them. Much like Emily, the bachelorette, they will protect their families until the day they die.
We observed them until I was good and ready to move on. My night was complete but we did the hike anyway. It's one of those surely the lake is just over that rise only to find another rise type of hikes. The view was so beautiful. I love going in the mountains in the middle of the week because you feel like you are on vacay.
Here is the view on the decent. Hind sight is 20/20...or something. When we got back to Silver Lake (pictured below) the moose had parked it on the trail. We were crazy close to them. So we backed off for a few minutes and watched the baby walk over the bridge and into the marsh. So awesome!
On the drive home we saw two more moosen or meese. As if the two we had practically good gamed weren't enough. Four in one evening! My luck has turned. And to top it all off, the sunset was fantastic. Thanks for a fun hike dad!
